Preparing for Interview

Debra

How do I prepare for a job Interview?

Research, preparation, look professional and being engaging are key to the interview process.

You need to demonstrate your ability to do the job, and consider that other people are competing for the same job, so ask yourself ‘how will you present yourself’ to ensure you are offered the position.

Interview mistakes

Firstly we know that legal professionals are intelligent and smart individuals and attend many meetings, but it is always fun to consider some obvious interview failings and here are 10 things you should not do at an interview:

  1. Don’t be late.
  2. Lack of preparation and research.
  3. Dress inappropriately (take out piercings and cover tattoos).
  4. Fidget and poor body language including a lack of eye contact.
  5. Speaking negatively about a competitor or previous employer or colleagues.
  6. Lack of conversation or questions, you will appear to be uninterested.
  7. Do not ramble, lie or embellish the credentials on your CV.
  8. Do not swear, get too personal or over familiar.
  9. Discuss salary.
  10.  Ask about reducing or changing the working hours.
